Polo Throne Cup: PGH La Palmeraie Polo Club from Assilah secures the title of the 2nd edition

The team of “Patrick Guerrand-Hermès” (PGH) La Palmeraie Polo Club from Assilah clinched the prestigious title on Sunday in Rabat during the final of the 2nd edition of the Polo Throne Cup. The tournament, held from November 14 to 19 on the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, was organized by the Royal Moroccan Polo Federation.

PGH La Palmeraie Polo Club from Assilah secured this prestigious title by defeating the Royal Guard team with a score of 6 to 5 in the final held at the “Royal Guard Polo Club” in Souissi-Rabat.

The third-place went to Polo Club Jnan Amar from Marrakech after their victory on Saturday against the team from the Royal Cavalry School of Témara with a score of 11 goals to 4 ½.

In the semi-finals, the Royal Guard team prevailed against the Royal Cavalry School (7 – 1½), while the PGH La Palmeraie Polo Club team qualified at the expense of Polo Club Jnan Amar (8-3).

The qualifying rounds were held at the “Houara Polo Club” in Tangier from November 14 to 16.

At the end of this final, Moulay Abdellah Alaoui, president of the Royal Moroccan Federation of Equestrian Sports, presented the trophy to the captain of the winning team.

The title of the first edition had been won by the Royal Guard team, victorious in the final against PGH La Palmeraie Polo Club from Assilah (5-0).

Polo matches consist of several periods (between 4 and 8) of 7 minutes each, marked by 3-minute breaks to allow players to change horses.

In case of a tie, the two teams play extra time. The club that scores a goal is declared the winner.

The matches are officiated by two referees on horseback. In case of disagreement over a given decision, the opinion of the third referee outside the field is sought.
